St Michael’s church, Remuera, was built in the early 1930s, in the depths of the great world economic depression. In that dire financial situation, the decision to create such a large and expensive church, and to use a classic but then unconventional design, showed great faith and courage by the parishioners of that time. 

A place of beauty, prayer and reflection
Over the years the church has been preserved and enhanced by generations of Catholics. Many items of special religious and artistic significance have been added. Today, St Michael’s reflects the devotion and generosity of countless worshippers and benefactors. It is a beautiful place of prayer and reflection to impress and inspire all who enter.

A tribute and a celebration
The parish has published an illustrated guide to St Michael’s. This offers a detailed catalogue of the church and contents, with an informative and well-researched text and many full colour photographs. Publication of the guide is a tribute to the parishioners who built the church and who have maintained it and made it their place of worship. It is part of the  programme to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the blessing and opening of the church in October 1933.
