The Caring & Support Committee continues to coordinate a “call around” ministry to parishioners who may be alone, lack regular support from family or friends, or who may be struggling with challenges related to age, illness or mobility or any other difficulties or circumstances with which they may be confronted during these unprecedented times.
Parishioners are urged to help.
- What parishioners do you know who fit the above criteria?
- Telephone them to see if they are OK, or need any help, or just a chat.
- If help is needed, and you can’t deal with it, please email the parish office.
- Incoming emails will be referred to the Committee for prompt action.
- Please make your calls at least once a week.
What we suggest is a simple act of kindness to show that someone cares and that help is available. It does not matter if the same parishioner is contacted by more than one caller. And note that the government guidelines are not intended to stop us from performing acts of kindness so long as this is done by someone aged under 70 observing the 2 metre rule.
You may become aware of parishioners who may need more professional support: this could be to do with mental or any other health concerns, family harm, housing, financial or any other problems they may be experiencing under the current restrictions. If so please encourage or support them to seek assistance from an appropriate registered agency. The Caring & Support Committee is also available and very willing to offer support and/or direct any enquires to a recommended specialist source of help.
Even as, and when, the current restrictions are relaxed there may not be any change for those whose health and age may require them to remain at home and in social isolation. These are likely to be some of those in the parish community whose need for our support is greatest. In fact their needs will probably increase while restrictions continue. So, please maintain your concern and vigilance – and keep up those weekly calls. Thank you.
