The story of St Michael’s Parish is the story of a people you can be part of. Your belonging adds your own story, and makes the Parish vital and enthusiastic. It is good to belong!
Our Parish Church was opened on 1st October 1933. It was described in the fulsome language of the day as:
“an ornament to the city of Auckland….a triumph of architectural skill that rivals many of the edifices under the stars of the Southern Cross and would grace any city in any part of the world”
Yes, that may sound flattering, but St Michael’s is certainly a visible landmark!
Driving along the motorway, just before the Market Rd turnoff, look to the left and you will see the tower of our church (lit up at night time). The tower is visible throughout Remuera and the surrounding suburbs, and even from Devonport’s North Head.
Walk around One Tree Hill, and just before you reach the old olive grove, look left and you will see our church. There is also a splendid view from the heart recovery ward of Mercy Hospital.
